Flaws are one way to give a room more personality, but oftentimes the most appealing and non-traditional aspects of a space also create the greatest challenges when it comes to developing a design that is coherent. When clients contacted interior designer Marina Colella to provide some peace and greater storage to their bright bedroom with high ceilings, she was presented with this challenge. She was tasked with making the space more functional.
This project, which can be found in the county of Westchester in the state of New York, is a good example of how to develop adaptable solutions. “Most projects have one or two challenges—this one had a few,” said Colella, whose namesake studio is a member of Decorating Den Interiors, a network of privately owned and run interior design franchisees around the United States. “This one had a few,” Colella revealed.
During a recent tour of the completed project, Colella shared that the first step was creating a sense of order for the windows. These windows include a stacked transom with a larger window below, as well as a horizontal cutout placed oddly on an adjoining wall. Colella explained that the first step was to create this sense of order.
“Nobody wants to cover the window, but in this case, it was really throwing the balance of the room off,” Colella said. “Nobody wants to cover the window, but in this case, it was really throwing the balance of the room off.” Taking detailed measurements is a must before starting any home improvement project. Colella devised a plan to camouflage one of the windows with creamy drapes. This sacrificed a small amount of light for a much-needed sense of equilibrium. The neutral curtains bring back the symmetry to the room and, in the case of the smaller window, function as a headboard that extends from floor to ceiling.

Colella also displayed her creative side by installing a beautiful grille that is mirrored above the bed. This pattern may be described as “a little bit transitional” because it is neither too contemporary nor too conventional.
Following that, a calming coat of warm beige paint was applied in order to disguise the surprising angles of the high ceilings, which are otherwise one of the nicest elements of the space. “The paint in this room was a bit messy because a lot of painters look at ceilings and assume, ‘It must be painted white,'” said Colella. “The reason for this is because a lot of painters see ceilings.” There are several angles and soffits in this room, and as a result, the area does not feel cohesive at all. On the other hand, a coat that is a single colour helps to blur the borders between the wall and the ceiling, which contributes to visual harmony.

The client’s punch list for the project included functionality as an additional must-have need. Despite the fact that it is a bedroom and that it has vaulted ceilings, the space is not that large, as Colella remarked.
Her ingenious solutions included a plush storage ottoman that does triple duty as a location for keeping extra blankets, a comfortable lounging place, and a burst of complementing floral upholstery; moreover, a sophisticated wood closet hides an amusing secret within its shelves. She divulged that because the space did not lend itself to installing the television on the wall, we keep it in the armoire instead. The doors may be closed to entirely conceal the electronic devices, and a comfy swivel chair provides the option to stream without being covered in blankets.

When Next Wave designer Noz Nozawa got the chance to give her client’s developer-built house some much-needed flair, she couldn’t resist taking advantage of the opportunity. The contemporary home was finished in 2019 and is located close to the centre of Menlo Park in California. The home’s architecture is inspired by traditional ranch homes seen throughout California. “The house was already wonderful and extremely new, but it was very stark and it employed fixtures that are quite popular in high-end real estate developments in the Bay Area,” recalls Nozawa. “The Bay Area is known for its abundance of high-end real estate developments.”
The interior designer began a project that focused mostly on aesthetic updates throughout the 5,800-square-foot property. The single-story building is designed in the shape of a U, and it encompasses a backyard on all sides. Inside, there are a total of seven bedrooms and six and a half baths. Nozawa concentrated on the arrangement of a few major furniture pieces across the common areas so that “the common rooms seem full and complete, but there’s still a lot of open floor space for energetic youngsters to live on.” Latest most common home improvement in 2022 Latest most common home improvement in 2022

Latest most common home improvement in 2022 Along with giving careful consideration to the client’s personal collection, integrating art was one of the most important considerations. Nozawa collaborated with the decorative artist Caroline Lizarraga to hand-paint murals in a few select bedrooms as part of a makeover project. Because the primary suite is serene yet moody and accented with stone (such as alabaster sconces and marble mosaic floors), it called for a 360-degree mural that mimics Nero Marquina marble and serves as the perfect backdrop for the couple’s wedding poster. The mural was designed to look like Nero Marquina marble and encompasses the entire room. In one of the guest rooms, the walls were designed by Lizarraga to seem like white silk that had been dipped into a periwinkle dye and interwoven with gold. The client’s favourite existing furniture was also included in this room. Another entertaining addition is painted artwork that, when viewed from underneath the dining table on the patio, gives the impression of a rug being there.Latest most common home improvement in 2022 Latest most common home improvement in 2022

Now, the elegant but vivacious house is prepared to host many happy memories over the next years.
